Caring for Your Jewellery

Each Saatchi jewellery piece is meticulously crafted using the finest materials. Depending on its unique properties, each material requires special care. By following our guide, you can ensure your pieces remain vibrant, lustrous and radiant for years to come.
Your jewellery should be the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off.

Jewellery

Custom-designed and crafted with the utmost precision, our jewellery pieces are timeless and elegant. Our delicate jewellery requires special care and attention.

Daily Care

  • To prevent damaging your piece, we encourage you to avoid exposure to soaps, makeup, fragrances and other cosmetics. Please wait until these substances are completely dried on the skin before putting on your jewellery.
  • We recommend that you avoid exposing your jewellery to water and heat by taking it off before showering or going to the beach. Avoid fresh, chlorinated and saltwater and remember to safely store away your piece prior to sunbathing.
  • To prevent your jewellery from breaking, tearing or becoming damaged, we recommend that you do not wear it during potentially harmful activities (gym, sports, swimming etc…)
  • To maximize the safety of your piece, we advise taking it off prior to bedtime to avoid it being knocked, torn or broken during sleep.

Cleaning

  • Regular cleaning is essential in the preservation of shine, lustre and gleam. We recommend using a soft, dry cloth to clean your pieces.
  • For a special jewellery polishing cloth and cleaning solution, ask our attentive advisors at Saatchi.
  • Please avoid using DIY methods of cleaning and polishing using household products.
  • For more information on the professional, continued care we offer, please get in touch with us.

Storage

  • All Saatchi jewellery should be safely stored away in fabric-lined cases to prevent tears and scratches.
  • We advise all jewellery to be kept separately as some materials are incredibly delicate and fragile.
  • When travelling, make sure to use a clean, designated fabric-lined case. Soft pouches are also appropriate for bracelets and rings but should be avoided for necklaces as they can easily tangle.
  • Diamonds, in particular, should be kept separate due to their hard properties as they could easily scratch soft materials like gold.

Watches

To ensure the condition and functionality of your watch are well-maintained over its lifetime, we recommend adopting some key principles into your daily wear habits.

Daily Care

  • Although your timepiece is designed to withstand minor, daily exposure to water, we strongly advise against submerging it underwater.
  • Avoid exposure to extreme temperatures to minimize the risk of damage to the joints or clasps.
  • Keep your watch away from strong magnet sources. Although magnetism won’t permanently damage your watch, it can put extra stress on its components and distort its function, causing a gain or loss in time. Magnetic sources to avoid include: magnetic bracelets, microwaves, X-rays, MRI scanners and large stereos. If your watch has a leather strap, take extra care by keeping it away from cosmetics, creams and chemicals. If you use a fragrance, wait for it to fully dry before wearing your watch.

Maintenance

  • We advise against leaving a dead battery in your watch as it can harm its function. A battery will last 2 years on average. To maintain a mechanical watch, make a habit out of gently winding the crown until you feel resistance before you strap
  • It onto your wrist. This should be done daily.
  • An automatic (self-winding) watch gains its energy via the natural movement of the wearer. To ensure optimal performance, ensure the strap fits your wrist well. If function stops, wind the crown until you see movement pick up again.

Storage

  • When not in use, we recommend that you store away your watch in its original case or any safe, fabric-lined case to protect it. This will minimize the chances of scratches, dents and breaking.
  • When travelling, use this same tactic but take special care by taking your watch and its case in your carry-on luggage. This will protect it from being damaged in the checked luggage.

Material Care Guide

We handpick our materials carefully using the most stringent selection process. Due to the unique characteristics of each material, we advise you to follow our care and maintenance instructions. This promises jewellery that remains vibrant and strong.

Platinum & Gold

Gold is a delicate material that requires special attention. Certain household products and activities can cause your precious gold pieces to discolour and disintegrate. We recommend that you take the following precautions to help them maintain their integrity:

Daily Care

  • Take off your jewellery before indoor and outdoor household activities: Gardening, dishwashing or cleaning with harsh chemicals.
  • Take off your jewellery before swimming or soaking in pools, hot tubs and hot springs.
  • Take off your jewellery before engaging in sports activities outdoors or at the gym.
  • Put on your jewellery only after cosmetics, fragrances and lotions have fully dried on your skin.
  • Avoid exposure to household cleaning products, detergents and bleach.

Storage

  • Gold is a soft material, much softer than sterling silver and diamonds (the hardest stone). To avoid scratches, store gold pieces away in a fabric-lined case, in a compartment separate from other jewellery.
  • When travelling, store your gold jewellery in its designated case or pouch. Always travel with it in your carry-on luggage.

Sterling Silver

Sterling silver is loved for its shine and strength. It can tarnish, however, when exposed to certain substances. To keep your sterling silver jewellery bright and tarnish-free, we recommend that you follow our simple care instructions.

Daily Care

  • Avoid exposure to salty air, sulphur, humidity, chlorinated and salt water.
  • Avoid direct contact with perspiration as much as possible
  • Take off your jewellery before swimming or soaking in pools, hot tubs and hot springs.
  • Take off your jewellery before engaging in sports activities outdoors or at the gym.
  • Put on your jewellery only after cosmetics, fragrances and lotions have fully dried on your skin.
  • Avoid exposure to household cleaning products, detergents and bleach.

Cleaning

  • To remove tarnish and restore shine, gently scrub with a designated silver jewellery cleaner, rinse under clear water and blot dry.
  • For daily care, gently clean with a cloth specially made for silver jewellery.
  • To polish, use a silver polishing cloth.
  • For a special jewellery polishing cloth and cleaning solution, ask our attentive advisors at Saatchi.
  • Please avoid using DIY methods of cleaning and polishing using household products.
  • For more information on the professional, continued care we offer, please get in touch with us.

Storage

  • Silver does best safely stored away in a felt-lined jewelry case. Felt absorbs excess moisture and prevents premature tarnishing.
  • Store away larger pieces wrapped in a separate felt pouch or wrapped in a silver polishing cloth to limit exposure to the air and humidity.
  • When travelling, store your sterling silver jewellery in its designated case or pouch. Always travel with it in your carry-on luggage.

Precious Gems

Crafted from the world’s most sought-after materials, precious gemstone, diamond and pearl jewellery requires designated care. To keep it vibrant and ever-sparkling, we recommend that you follow our simple care instructions.

Daily Care

  • Keep your gems, diamonds and pearls away from household chemicals, extreme temperatures, household cleaning
  • Products and chemicals and ultrasonic cleaning.
  • Avoid direct contact with perspiration as much as possible
  • Take off your jewellery before swimming or soaking in pools, hot tubs and hot springs.
  • Take off your jewellery before engaging in sports activities outdoors or at the gym.
  • Keep ring dishes around your home to avoid losing your jewellery when taking it off.

Cleaning

  • Please refer to each individual material for the designated cleaning instructions.

Diamonds

Prized for their timeless elegance and durability, diamonds have the highest hardness properties of any natural material.

  • Use a soft brush, warm water and a neutral ph soap to gently clean your diamonds.
  • Rinse with clear water and blot dry with a soft cloth.

Gemstones

One of Earth’s beautiful creations, gemstones have an eye-catching allure. To retain their vibrancy and vitality, they deserve care.

  • Use a soft brush and jewellery cleaning solution to clean hard gemstones.
  • Use a soft brush, warm water and a neutral ph soap to clean soft gemstones.
  • In both cases, rinse and dry with a designated polishing cloth.

Mother of Pearl

Derived from seashells and known for their iridescent shine, pearls are delicate and require equally delicate care.

  • A soft material, pearls are naturally susceptible to small surface scratches.
  • If worn regularly, pearls should be professionally restrung and cleaned.
  • At home, pearls can be cleaned using a soft, damp cloth.

Storage

As diamonds are the hardest, diamond pieces should be stored separately from softer materials like gold, pearls and gemstones.

  • Store your jewellery in fabric or felt-lined cases and pouches.
  • When travelling, store your precious gem and pearl jewellery in their designated case or pouch. Always travel with them in your carry-on luggage.
